Background of Institution

  • Universiti Tenaga Nasional (UNITEN) started off in 1976 as Institut Latihan Sultan Ahmad Shah (ILSAS), which served as the corporate training centre for Tenaga Nasional Berhad and its predecessor, National Electricity Board.

  • In 1994, ILSAS was transformed into an institute of higher learning and renamed Institut Kejuruteraan Teknologi Tenaga Nasional (IKATAN). Three years later in 1997, IKATAN was upgraded to the name of Universiti Tenaga Nasional (UNITEN)

  • The main campus of UNITEN is sited within the Multimedia Super Corridor(MSC). Meanwhile, it has also a branch campus in Bandar Muadzam Shah in the state of Pahang

 Programmes Outline

 

  • UNITEN offers foundation programmes right up to postgraduate degree courses to cater to the needs and different academic levels of students. The study programmes at UNITEN are offered through the university's four Colleges and one Institute, namely the College of Engineering, College of Information Technology, College of Business Management, College of Postgraduate Studies, and the Institute of Liberal Studies which provide languages and general studies courses.

 Academic Facilities & Resources

 

  • The university is equipped with numerous on-campus facilities, such as air-conditioned lecture halls and classrooms, seminar and conference rooms, engineering technology skills training workshops and laboratories, personal computer laboratories, multimedia facilities that include campus-wide Digital Interactive Multimedia Distribution System (DIMDS), an auditorium, a multi-purpose hall, health & medical centre, food courts and eateries.

 Student Support Services & Student  Development Activities

 

  • Accommodation facilities include on-campus student apartments and an Executive Education Centre, which provides standard hotel accommodation. Social, recreational and sporting facilities include an olympic size swimming pool and a mini-stadium for football to facilitate various events and activities of students.

  • UNITEN provides a wide range of comprehensive support services to international students through the International Students Office (ISO) that looks after their welfare and special needs. Other assistance provided by the ISO are those pertaining to matters such as admission procedures, pre-arrival information, immigration policies, accommodation arrangements, and counseling advice.


International Recognition & Achievement

 

  • UNITEN's Bachelor of Engineering degrees are recognized by the Board of Engineers, Malaysia  (BEM) and the Institutions of Engineers, Malaysia (IEM), whilst the Bachelor of Accounting degree is recognized by the Malaysia Institute of Accountants (MIA) and Malaysian Institute of Certified Public Accountants (MICPA). At the international level, the latter degree is recognized by the Association of Certified Chartered Accountants (ACCA), Chartered Institute of Management Accountants, (CIMA) and the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators (ICSA), all from the UK.

  • UNITEN has successfully scaled the Memoranda of Understanding (MoU) with several prestigious foreign universities from the UK for the purpose of mutual benefits. The university's academic programmes are also recognized by the governments of Yemen and Iran and are awaiting final evaluation by the governments of  Saudi Arabia and Egypt.
